Academic Calendar Description:

In this course, students are introduced to key issues and debates in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from historical, contemporary, and transnational perspectives with a focus on polyamory and non/monogamies. Students address diverse experiences of, and ways of understanding, non-normative relationship configurations and alternative ways of being and living, foregrounding how they intersect with sexuality, gender, race, class, ethnicity, ability, nationality, settler, and other forms of colonialism, as well as other social identities and locations.

Qualifications:

The preferred applicant will usually possess at least an M.A. in a relevant field of study and will have teaching / research experience relevant to work in Women and Gender Studies.

Job Summary & Key Responsibilities

This part-time academic will be required to teach in person POLI 3427/GWST 3600.03, SEXUALITY, RACISM, AND WESTERN POLITICAL THOUGHT during winter term (January 2024-April 2024), currently scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1305 to 1425 p.m.

Course description: Representations of women and constructs of femininity are a significant part of mainstream Western political thought. Drawing on contemporary critical analyses, this course examines the roles of such representations in the work of leading philosophers, with attention to understanding the relation between ideas of sexual difference and their general systems of thought. We will also discuss the work of contemporary feminist political theorists on a range of social and legal issues, through a review of recent developments in theories of knowledge, embodiment, equality, and rights.

The part-time academic will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the class, including lectures, test preparation, Teaching Assistant supervision and evaluation. The position reports to the Chair of the Department.
Qualifications/Requirements of Position
Preference will be given to applicants with a PhD, or nearly completed PhD in Political Science. Previous university-level teaching on this topic will be an asset.

Qualifications/Requirements of Position
Master’s or Doctorate in Gender and Women’s Studies (or equivalent professional experience) and professional expertise in women’s movements, activism, and participatory learning methods. Demonstrated experience in some combination of diversity, equity, and global feminist activism. Commitment to interdisciplinary approaches in Gender and Women’s Studies. Demonstrated ability to teach effectively at the university level.

Job Summary & Key Responsibilities
A part-time academic is required to teach GWST 2011.03 : Queering Foundations; currently scheduled for In-Person delivery on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, 1035-1125AM, in the Winter Term (January-April 2023). The part-time academic’s duties include responsibility for planning the course in conjunction with the Coordinator, teaching the class, evaluating the students, holding regular office hours, and administration relating to the class. The part-time academic must be available for consultation with students outside of class times. This position will report to the Coordinator of Gender and Women’s Studies. Note: This class may have teaching assistant support depending on enrolment.
Qualifications/Requirements of Position
Master’s or Doctorate in Gender and Women’s Studies (or equivalent professional experience) and professional expertise in women’s movements, activism, and participatory learning methods. Demonstrated experience in some combination of diversity, equity, and global feminist activism. Commitment to interdisciplinary approaches in Gender and Women’s Studies. Demonstrated ability to teach effectively at the university level.

Job Summary & Key Responsibilities A part-time academic is required to teach Gender and Women’s Studies 1010.03 – Introduction to Gender & Women’s Studies in the fall term (Sept-Dec 2021). The part-time academic’s duties include responsibility for planning the course in conjunction with the Coordinator, teaching the class, evaluating the students, holding regular office hours, and administration relating to the class. The part-time academic must be available for consultation with students outside of class times. This course will be delivered asynchronously, online. This position will report to the Coordinator of Gender and Women’s Studies. Note: This class may have teaching assistant support depending on enrolment.
Qualifications/Requirements of Position Master’s or Doctorate in Gender and Women’s Studies (or equivalent professional experience) and professional expertise in women’s movements, activism, and participatory learning methods. Demonstrated experience in some combination of diversity, equity, and global feminist activism. Commitment to interdisciplinary approaches in Gender and Women’s Studies. Ability to teach effectively at the university level.
Salary Range/Pay Rate Per CUPE Collective Agreement
Additional Information Applications must include a CV, and at least two references. Evidence of teaching effectiveness (including the results of teaching evaluations for university-level classes), if available. Recent experience of teaching online is an asset.

Course:                      WMST 1200 (3 credit hour course; lecture format)

INTRODUCTION TO WOMEN AND GENDER STUDIES

Department:              Women and Gender Studies, Faculty of Arts, Saint Mary’s University.

Semester:       Summer II 2021 (July 6th —Aug. 17th (end of classes) / 22nd (end of exam period).

Schedule:       Summer II 2021 lectures for first through third year will be primarily online, but there is room to explore distributed/shared on-campus interactions in smaller groups.

Lectures are scheduled for MW1:30-4:30,  although asynchronous teaching may be a possibility.

Academic Calendar Description:

This course introduces students to the discipline of women and gender studies, emphasizing the interdisciplinary nature of debates that inform the field. Topics may include ideologies of femininity and masculinity; gender and psychology, language, sexuality, inequities; women and gender in the context of history, culture, literature, politics, economics; women, gender and intersecting identities, including ethnicity, class, race, disability, workforce and parenting.

Qualifications:

To be the successful applicant you must have a current appointment to teach in WMST. Your appointment must deem you eligible to teach the posted course. Further information with respect to Appointment can be found in the CUPE 3912 PT Faculty Collective Agreement.

Experience with remote/online delivery would be considered an asset.

Duties:

Duties and responsibilities of this course include course / lecture preparation and delivery, evaluation of student work, offering office hours, and responding to student enquiries via email or Brightspace (SMU’s online platform). Summer 2021 lectures for first through third year will be primarily online, but there is room to explore distributed/shared on-campus interactions in smaller groups. In proposals to run components of courses on-campus, priority will be given for courses that are “core” to programs and where students must take the course at a specific point in their program (e.g. prerequisite). At this time, WMST 1200 is not considered a core course.
