Position Title Part-Time Academic (SOIL2000 – Intro to Soil Science at FAFU, China) – Fall 2025

Job Summary & Key Responsibilities
The Part-Time Academic position will teach in-Person Lectures and Labs for SOIL2000 Intro to Soil Science (2 sections) at FAFU International College in Fuzhou, China. Travel to China will occur in early to mid-September and return in early to mid-December 2025 for 13 weeks of class time: 12 weeks of teaching and 1 week of exam administration. Each of the 2 sections has 3 hours of lectures per week (2 deliveries x 1.5hrs each) and 3 hours of labs per week (1 delivery x 3hrs each). Accommodation and a meal allowance will be provided by FAFU, and Dalhousie will provide transportation between Halifax NS and Fuzhou, China. The Part-Time Academic will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the lectures and labs, including test preparation, evaluation and teaching platform administration. This position reports to the Chair of the Department.
Qualifications/Requirements of Position
At least one year experience in teaching in a post-secondary educational institution. Excellent oral and written communication in English is required, as well as collegiality, organization and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work in a team environment. A Master’s degree or PhD in Agricultural Sciences or Environmental Sciences with a strong knowledge base in Soil Sciences is required. The incumbent will be required to obtain a Chinese Visa, with Dalhousie’s assistance.
Salary Range/Pay Rate $14,437 stipend

Excellent oral and written communication, collegiality, organizational and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work in a team environment. Undergraduate or graduate degree in landscape architecture. Five years’ full membership in the Atlantic Provinces Association of Landscape Architects, or equivalent. Experience in contract administration processes, cost estimating and project management, as well as business development.

Qualifications/Requirements of Position

Proficiency in using the 2023 version of AutoCAD for production of 2-dimensional construction documents. Proficiency in the application of landscape architecture documentation standards. Undergraduate or graduate degree in landscape architecture, or a two year diploma in architectural engineering technology. Five years of experience in the use of AutoCAD to produce construction documents for landscape architecture using AutoCAD. Professional credential (APALA or CET) is an asset.

The Part-time Academic will teach in person lectures and labs for HORT2011 Arboriculture for the period of September to December 2025. The Part-time Academic will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the class, including lectures, labs, test preparation and online evaluation. The position reports to the chair of the Department.
Qualifications/Requirements of Position
At least 5 years experience teaching Arboriculture, and certification as an ISA Certified Arborist. Excellent oral, written communication, collegiality and interpersonal skills. As a technical course, a Bachelor of Technology in Horticulture is required OR a Masters/PhD in a related field.
