COURSE TITLE: Introductory Modern Chinese I
Department: Department of Modern Languages and Classics, Faculty of Arts, Saint Mary’s University.

Schedule : MW 11:30 am – 12:45 pm
Academic Calendar Description: Students are introduced to spoken and written modern Chinese (Mandarin). Conversational drill and comprehension exercises in the classroom and laboratory provide practice in pronunciation and in the use of the basic patterns of speech. Chinese ideographs are introduced and studied in combinations. Reading progresses from prepared materials to selections from contemporary writings.

Job Summary & Key Responsibilities |
Chinese 1031: Introduction to Chinese (Mandarin) Pt 1, Fall term 2021-22
The part-time academic will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the class, including admission, lectures, test preparation, evaluation, and electronic submission of grades. Instructors are expected to maintain reliable and constant communication with the administration of the Department, to be available for two hours per week for consultation with students, and to have students fill out the evaluation questionnaire at the end of the course. Three course hours per week, MW 1435 – 1555.
Due to the current Covid-19 outbreak and ongoing extensions to social distance protocols, Dalhousie University may be moving this class online for the fall semester. Experience with teaching in an online environment is preferred. Candidates must be willing to teach online. All instructors hired to teach online will be supported by Dalhousie’s Centre for Learning and Teaching, and Academic Technology Services (support@dal.ca), to deliver their courses online.
