Course: HWSS 2000.1 Health, Wellness & Sport Intro Department: Certificate in Health, Wellness, and Sport in Society, Faculty of Arts, Saint Mary’s University Semester: Fall 2026 (Sep 9 – Dec 21) Lectures: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2:30 – 3:45 pm. On Campus Academic Calendar Description Students are provided with an introduction to fundamental concepts in the social study of health, wellness and sport. Students examine specific content areas from multiple perspectives, including historical, political, cultural and economic contexts. Students consider the production and transmission of expert knowledge and the connection between evidence and public policy. Qualifications Applicants must have a Ph.D. completed or near completion in a field related to the study of health or sport (such as sociology, anthropology, history, or other discipline in the social sciences or humanities). The preferred applicant will have a demonstrated track record in teaching interdisciplinary courses. It is also preferable that the applicant has engaged in scholarly activities pertaining to health or sport, such as research activity. Duties Duties and responsibilities include preparation and delivery of lectures, preparation and evaluation of all student assessments. Remuneration Remuneration is in accordance with the Collective Agreement between CUPE 3912 and Saint Mary’s University.
