The Part-Time Academic will be responsible for Academic INDG/CANA 2050/HIST 2205.03: Historical Issues in Indigenous Studies, an online synchronous class to be held on Tuesday/Thursday, 1435-1555 (Fall Term 2026/2027) online (synchronous).

The Part-Time Academic will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the course, including preparing and delivering lectures, marking student assignments, development of course content on Brightspace, and submitting grades. In addition to course time, the instructor is required to hold two office hours per week for consultation with students. The instructor reports to the Indigenous Studies program Coordinator.

Course description:
This course is an interdisciplinary introduction to the history of encounters and relationships between Indigenous peoples and European settlers in Canada. Topics may include treaties, colonial policy, residential schools, child welfare, resettlement, and the Indian Act. This course provides the necessary background to understand contemporary Indigenous issues.

Qualifications/Requirements of Position

As this course centers Indigenous history and knowledge, candidates who self-identify as Indigenous peoples are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates must demonstrate expertise in Indigenous knowledge systems relevant to the course, which may include lived experience, community-based knowledge, and/or scholarly work grounded in Indigenous perspectives. Applicants should possess or be working towards a PhD in History or related field. Research experience in Indigenous studies is preferred.

The destruction of most of European Jewry by Nazism and its helpers during the Second World War is studied in the context of centuries-old religious antisemitism, nineteenth-century Jewish emancipation and the emergence of racist ideology, the political and social situation of Jews in eastern and western Europe after World War I, “legal” and bureaucratic persecution of German Jews culminating in mass killing at Auschwitz and other death camps, and the response of bystander nations to the perpetration of genocide.

This Part-Time Academic will be fully responsible for teaching and grading one portion of the course THEA 4735/MUSC 4360/HIST 4162: Advanced Seminar in Baroque Culture. This portion is worth one half (1/2) or three (3) credit hours of the full credit course taking place in Český Krumlov, Czech Republic, from May 29 to June 29, 2026.

Travel expenses will be reimbursed and accommodation will be provided.

This position reports to the Director of the Fountain School of Performing Arts.

Qualifications/Requirements of Position

Students follow the evolution of scientific inquiry and methodology from antiquity to modernity. Students examine the major developments in the history of science and technology, including the emergence of science in antiquity, medieval science, the Scientific Revolution, the expansion of science in the modern world, the relation between science and society, and the cultural significance of science and technology.

Qualifications:

Preferred applicant should possess a PhD in History and have experience teaching science and technology History at the university level. Candidates with publications and/or demonstrated research in the field will be preferred.

Duties:

A part-time academic is required to teach CANA 2002.03: The Idea of Canada: Cultural and Literary Perspectives, in Winter 2024/25 (January – April, 2025). The class is currently scheduled for In-Person instruction on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1135-1255. The part-time academic is responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the course, including lectures, test preparation and evaluation, and student consultation. The part-time academic reports to the Coordinator of the Canadian Studies program.

Qualifications/Requirements of Position
Candidates must possess a PhD in a Humanities or Social Sciences discipline with research and teaching experience in Canadian Studies or a closely related field. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate deep knowledge of Canadian history, society and culture.
Salary Range/Pay Rate As per CUPE Collective Agreement

CANA 1102.03: Halifax and the World, Part1. The part-time academic is responsible for teaching and managing this course and in addition is to be available for two hours per week outside of class times for student consultation.

CANA 1102 is scheduled for Fall term In-Person instruction (September – December 2024) on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1335-1425; with Teaching Assistant lead tutorials on Thursdays and Fridays each week. The part-time academic reports to the Coordinator of the Canadian Studies program.
Qualifications/Requirements of Position
Candidates must possess a PhD in a humanities discipline, social sciences discipline, or related interdisciplinary field with a focus on cultural production and social justice. Research and teaching experience in Canadian Studies / International Development Studies or closely related fields. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate deep knowledge of Halifax and an ability to incorporate critical analysis of local cultural production, gender studies, indigenous studies, and social justice issues into the course. Previous teaching experience in large lecture settings preferred.

A part-time academic is required to teach CANA 2002.03: The Idea of Canada: Cultural and Literary Perspectives, in Winter 2022/23 (January – April, 2023). The class is currently scheduled for In-Person instruction on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1135-1255. The part-time academic is responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the course, including lectures, test preparation and evaluation, and student consultation. The part-time academic reports to the Coordinator of the Canadian Studies program.
Qualifications/Requirements of Position
Candidates must possess a PhD in a humanities discipline or interdisciplinary humanities program with research and teaching experience in Canadian Studies or a closely related field. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate deep knowledge of Canadian history, society and culture.

CANA 1102.03: Halifax and the World, Part1. The part-time academic is responsible for teaching and managing this course and in addition is to be available for two hours per week outside of class times for student consultation.

CANA 1102 is scheduled for In-Person instruction (September – December 2022) on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:35-12:55; with Teaching Assistant lead tutorials each week. The part-time academic reports to the Coordinator of the Canadian Studies program.
Qualifications/Requirements of Position
Candidates must possess a PhD in a humanities discipline, social sciences discipline, or related interdisciplinary field with a focus on cultural production and social justice. Research and teaching experience in Canadian Studies / International Development Studies or closely related fields. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate deep knowledge of Halifax and an ability to incorporate critical analysis of local cultural production, gender studies, indigenous studies, and social justice issues into the course. Previous teaching experience in large lecture settings preferred.
