CUPE 3912 Job Posting for Part-Time Instructor The Department of Modern Languages and Classics is seeking an instructor to teach the following course which will be offered during 2022 Winter term (January 10 – April 26, 2022). Course: GRMN 1101.2 Course title: Intro to German Lang I Department: Department of Modern Languages and Classics, Faculty of Arts, Saint Mary’s University. Semester: Winter Schedule: Hybrid Academic Calendar Description: An introductory language course for those beginning the study of German. Basic linguistic structures will be studied with particular emphasis on the oral communications. Requirements for position: We require that candidates must possess an MA in Classics or equivalent, and a demonstrated record of success at university-level teaching. Remuneration: In accordance with CUPE Local 3912 Collective agreement (16.06), priority will be given to part-time faculty colleagues who are on the Department’s precedence list. Job Summary & Key Responsibilities | A Part-Time academic is required to teach GERM 3001.03 in the fall term (Sept-Dec 2021) on Tuesday/Thursdays from 10:05-11:25. The Part-Time Academic will be required to cover pronunciation and intonation techniques, oral practice, vocabulary, sentence and conversational structures in German. The Part-Time Academic will also be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the class, including admission, lectures, test preparation, evaluation, and electronic submission of grades. Three class hours per week, plus hold weekly office hours.
Due to the current Covid-19 outbreak and ongoing extensions to social distance protocols, the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Dalhousie University, will be moving this class online for the fall semester. Experience with teaching in an online environment is preferred. Candidates must be willing to teach online. All instructors hired to teach online will be supported by Dalhousie’s Centre for Learning and Teaching, and Academic Technology Services (support@dal.ca), to deliver their courses online. Qualifications/Requirements of Position | Applicants should have native or near-native fluency in English and German and possess a graduate degree or other academic and/or professional qualifications deemed suitable for teaching the class. Previous German language teaching experience at the post-secondary level would be an asset. |
