The 3 credit-hour online course will introduce students to knowledge translation theory, practice, and research methods. The goal of the course is to highlight relationships and conflicts between different conceptual and theoretical approaches to knowledge translation.

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:

    1. Explain terms and concepts related to knowledge translation.
    2. Critically analyze various theories, frameworks and strategies underlying knowledge translation.
    3. Describe factors influencing knowledge utilization in health care policy and practice.
    4. Critically analyze a knowledge gap through substantive writing.

 

This appointment runs from September 1 – December 31, 2025, and the part-time academic instructor reports directly to the Associate Director, Graduate Studies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Development of teaching and learning activities related to course-specific topic
  • Review and revise all course materials and assessments to align with current educational pedagogies that include universal design of learning and active learning strategies.
  • Hold weekly virtual office hours and follow up with students as necessary
  • Liaise with the Associate Director, Graduate Studies for initial instruction, orientation and as needed.
  • Delivery, assessment, evaluation, and co-ordination of the course using the Brightspace Learning Management System

The Integrated Professional Practicum for Registered Nurse Prescribers [RN (P)s] prepares nurses working in their area of clinical competence (employer designated area) to prescribe in collaboration with a Nurse Practitioner or Physician. Students will complete a minimum of 150 hours in a supervised clinical practicum experience in their workplace. This experience will enable RN students to further develop their knowledge and skills related to the prescribing process under the direct supervision of licensed prescribers (Nurse Practitioners or Physicians). The supervised clinical practicum will further develop and consolidate learners’ competence and confidence to prescribe in a specific clinical practice area and within a legal, ethical, and professional framework for accountability and responsibility for the care they provide. The course faculty will work with the student and their preceptors to ensure the student is meeting the objectives of the course and is deemed competent to carry out RN prescribing in the context designated on admission to the certificate program.

Clinical practicum is supplemented by online (asynchronous) learning. NSH to provide precepted clinical experience with physicians and Nurse Practitioners in designated learner areas.

The appointment for this 3-credit course runs from September 1 until December 31, 2025. The part-time academic instructor reports directly to the Associate Director, Graduate Studies.

This seminar course examines critical issues and trends affecting health policy in addition to the management practices of healthcare delivery services in Canada. Students engage in analytical debate while drawing on the assigned readings, other research, and their own clinical experience. Discussions incorporate historical and global perspectives as well as a range of influencing factors to understand, test, challenge, and contrast the effectiveness of current health policy in relation to the healthcare system in Canada.

Qualifications/Requirements of Position

REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION in BScN program: A Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, an active RN license with the NSCN, as well as two years of recent clinical experience is required. Clinical teaching experience (which may include preceptorship of staff or students) is essential. Instructors working in the lab are required to participate in SIM training sessions or workshops. Preference will be given to applicants that are available to do SIM/labs and Clinical in the same course.
