Job Summary & Key Responsibilities
Summer Term B – July 2 – August 19, 2025; Online Asynchronous
The Part-Time Academic will be responsible for teaching a 2000-level course, Systems Neuroscience (PSYO/NESC 2470.03). PSYO/NESC 2470 provides an introduction to the functional systems of the brain. It examines neural systems (e.g., the sensory systems, motor system, neurotransmitter-specific systems) individually, while exploring their anatomy and function, the neurobiological properties that make each unique, and factors that are common to all neural systems (e.g., development and plasticity).

The class will be offered in a fully online, asynchronous format. The anticipated enrollment is 80 students, and the course comes with a TA90.

Responsibilities of the successful applicant will include:
    • Developing 7 weeks of content, including online lectures, readings, and assessments
    • Preparation and administration of online exams/assessments
    • Grading assessments and providing timely feedback to students (in collaboration with the course TA)
    • Responding to students emails in a timely manner.
    • Providing course content (e.g., syllabus, noted, grades) on Brightspace, Dalhousie’s learning management system.
    • Maintaining a record of all student grades (including grades for each assessment component) in Brightspace, and ensuring timely submission of final letter grades to the registrar’s office.

 

Please note that this summer term does not include a formal exam period. Final exams are scheduled by the instructor within the course dates listed above.

This position reports to the Chair of the Department.
Qualifications/Requirements of Position
Applicants must have a graduate degree in Neuroscience, Psychology, or a closely related discipline, and must have research and teaching experience in areas relevant to those listed in the course description above. Proficiency with delivery of course content using a learning management system and experience teaching in an online environment (using Brightspace in particular) are considered assets.

PSYO/NESC 3264 The Science of Sleep reviews the history, methods and results of the scientific study of sleep.
