The School of Architecture at Dalhousie University invites applications for a Part-Time Academic Instructor position in the Master of Architecture (M.Arch.) degree program. The M.Arch. is a professional two-year graduate Architecture degree. Students complete a Pre-Professional Bachelor degree before M.Arch. enrolment.

The Instructor will teach a first-year 3-credit seminar in architectural humanities. Graduate seminars are topics-based, and can be developed in the instructor’s research and/or practice area-of-expertise. A list of Graduate Humanities courses can be found here. The instructor is responsible for developing their own curriculum. Prior course outlines and structures are available.

Graduate humanities courses consist of up to approximately eighteen students, and meet one time each week for 3 hours. The Summer Term is an 11-week term, from May 4 to July 17.

Graduate humanities courses may be taught remotely. In-person is preferred.

Qualifications/Requirements of Position
Education and Experience
    • M.Arch or equivalent Master’s degree
    • Prior instruction of graduate architecture humanities course, or similar prior college or university-level teaching experience.
    • PhD or equivalent in Architecture History or related field preferred prior to appointment; all but dissertation (ABD) may also be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

    • Demonstrated expertise in laser cutting, CNC fabrication, and 3D printing required. As well as expertise in digital modelling and file preparation for these processes.

The section will be one of five, fifteen-student sections delivered during the term. The project scale for the project term is a community-based facility containing a long-span structure. The Instructor will develop at least two class-wide lectures on a select topic.

Studio sections meet two times each week for 3.5 hours each. There will required attendance to scheduled coordination meetings prior and during the summer term.
