Position Title Part-Time Academic: ASSC 1800.03 Computing and Society in History — Fall 2025

Job Summary & Key Responsibilities

A part-time academic is required to teach ASSC 1800.03: Computing and Society in History. There are two sections, so two CUPE positions, scheduled for In-Person delivery. Section 01 is offered Mondays, 14:35-16:25, in the Fall term (Sept-Dec 2025). Section 02 is offered Wednesdays 11:35 to 13:25 in the Fall Term (Sept.-Dec. 2025). Candidates should indicate which section they are applying for, or whether they are applying for both sections.

The part-time academic will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the class, including lectures, and the evaluation of student work. The part-time academic will also be responsible for training and supervising teaching assistants, leading tutorials in the case of TA absences, and standardizing TA assessment of student work. The part-time academic should also be available for two hours per week for consultation with students. The position reports to the Associate Dean, Academic of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.

Qualifications/Requirements of Position
Applicants should have a PhD, although candidates who are ABD may also be considered, in a humanities or social sciences discipline. Applicants must have a proven record of outstanding teaching in large courses at the first-year university level in humanities or social sciences. Experience teaching arts and/or social science to students from other faculties is an asset.

Job Summary & Key Responsibilities

A part-time academic is required to teach ASSC 1700.03 Communications for Nursing and Kinesiology in the Fall term (September to December 2025). The lecture is scheduled for Mondays and Wednesdays 10:35-11:25.

This is a large course that is restricted to students registered in the Nursing program. It provides an introduction to academic writing in the context of health and social care and focuses on professional and academic writing, critical thinking, and communication, particularly within nursing contexts.

Qualifications/Requirements of Position
Applicants should possess a Ph.D. or be near completion in a relevant field and demonstrated capacity to teach writing and communication at the University level. Experience teaching writing and communication to students in the health professions is preferred.

Job Summary & Key Responsibilities
A part-time academic is required to teach LJSO 3500.03: Legal Research and Writing; currently scheduled for In-Person delivery, Mondays and Thursdays 1435-1555, in the Fall term (Sept-Dec) 2025. The part-time academic’s duties include responsibility for planning the course, teaching the class, coordinating guest speakers and/or library visits; evaluating the students, and administration relating to the class. The part-time academic must be available for consultation with students outside of class times. This position will report to the Coordinator of the Law, Justice & Society Program.
Qualifications/Requirements of Position

Training and/or experience in legal research, such as through a JD, LLM and/or a graduate degree in Legal Studies and/or Library Sciences; familiarity with legal databases and research archives and related resources. Ability to teach effectively at the university level.
