Job Summary & Key Responsibilities
Summer 2025 Term B – July 2 – August 19, 2025; Online Asynchronous

PSYO/NESC 3264 The Science of Sleep reviews the history, methods and results of the scientific study of sleep. Topics include: circadian and homeostatic regulation; developmental and cultural impacts; normal and abnormal function of neural and other control mechanisms; effects of sleep loss on performance and health; theories of the functions of sleep.

The responsibilities of the successful applicant will include:

1.    Developing seven weeks of content, including lectures, readings, and assessments
2.    Grading assessments and providing timely feedback to students (in collaboration with the course TA)
3.    Providing course content (e.g., syllabus, notes, grades) on Brightspace, Dalhousie’s learning management system.

Please note that this summer term does not include a formal exam period. Final exams are scheduled by the instructor within the course dates listed above.

This position reports to the Chair of the Department.

Qualifications/Requirements of Position
Applicants must have a graduate degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, or a related discipline. They should have recent research or teaching experience in relevant fields that may include (but are not limited to) the physiological and behavioural characteristics of sleep, circadian rhythms, and homeostasis in humans and non-human animals. Previous experience with Dalhousie’s learning management system, Brightspace, is considered an asset. This course has an enrolment of 50 students and comes with a TA90.
