In the event the section is moved to online delivery, candidates must also have experience using the Blackboard/Collaborate virtual classroom. Candidates must be willing to participate in additional training in the optimum range of teaching operations in the Moodle LMS and in the Collaborate virtual classroom, if necessary, to reach the required level of competency before the course begins. Candidates must also be sensitive to the needs of distant, mature and part-time learners. ————————————————— Duties: Preparation, teaching, student consultation, grading and marking, distribution of student evaluation questionnaires, involvement in student appeals, and other duties appropriate to the appointment. ————————————————— Additional Duties: This is a position for a laboratory instructor. The instructor does not create the exercises or write the lab manual. The instructor works with the lecturer, the senior lab instructor and the teaching lab technician. ![]() CUPE 3912 Job Posting for Part-Time Instructors Department: Department of Biology, Faculty of Science, Saint Mary’s University Semester: Winter 2025 (January 8, 2025- April 23, 2025) Course: Available courses and schedules are listed below. Qualifications: Qualified applicants will have an MSc or PhD in Biology or related field, relevant experience, and an aptitude for teaching at the post-secondary level. Preferred applicants will have taught the course in question, or a similar course, within the past 3 years. Applicants for laboratory teaching involving chemicals should have completed WHMIS training or be willing to complete WHMIS training before the contract begins. Duties: Lecture: Prepare, deliver, and coordinate the lecture component of the course; design, mark, and provide feedback to students on assignments and exams; hold regular office hours; compile and submit final grades including involvement in possible student appeals, and complete any other form of evaluation required by the SMU Biology Department and/or the University; comply with safety regulations that maintain a safe learning environment for staff and students. Laboratory: Student instruction in laboratory procedures and methods, including pre-lab tutorial; supervision of students performing laboratory/field activities; supervision of teaching assistants (when available); evaluation of student performance and grading; preparation/administration of lab assignments and/or other forms of evaluation required by the SMU Biology Department and/or the University; holding office hours for students; compliance with safety regulations to maintain a safe learning environment for staff and students.
