Candidates must be willing to participate in additional training in the optimum range of teaching operations in Moodle LMS and in the Collaborate virtual classroom, if necessary, to reach the required level of competency before the course begins. Candidates must also be sensitive to the needs of distant, mature and part-time learners. ————————————————— Duties: Preparation, teaching, student consultation, grading and marking, distribution of student evaluation questionnaires, involvement in student appeals, and other duties appropriate to the appointment. ————————————————— Additional Duties: This is a position for a laboratory instructor. The lab instructor consults with the instructor of the lecture portion of the course and the Stock Room Technician. Laboratory instructors are expected to ensure University safety guidelines are met and are responsible for lab clean up. This lab may or may not be provided with a teaching assistant and/or marker. ![]() POSTING DATE: 2024-12-09 Winter 2025 Academic Year Teaching Opportunities In accordance with the Agreement between Saint Mary’s University and CUPE Local 3912, I am notifying you of undergraduate teaching opportunities in the Department of Chemistry at Saint Mary’s University during the Winter semester of the 2024-2025 academic year. Available courses/sections are listed in the attached document. We offer on-campus, remote, and web-based courses. In all cases, candidates must be willing to teach the course remotely, should the need arise. Course delivery is expected to be synchronous and in-person. How to Apply: Applicants who currently hold a part-time teaching appointment at Saint Mary’s University must be deemed qualified to teach the course they are applying to teach. To apply to teach a course/section, please send the following information in an email message: Course number and section and name of the course (e.g., CHEM 1210 Lab Section A), a summary of previous/experience and/or qualifications for teaching the course in question, including any experience with remote or on-line delivery. Individual who do not hold a current part-time teaching appointment at Saint Mary’s University must be appointed prior to receiving a teaching assignment. Those applying for an appointment to teach shall possess a minimum of a Master’s degree in Chemistry or a closely related discipline; relevant experience and an aptitude for teaching at a post-secondary level; and will have preferably taught the course in question, or a similar course, within the last 3 years. Applicants should submit a complete application (including a cover letter, outlining any experience with remote or on-line teaching, CV, proof of academic credentials, name and contact information of three referees, and any evidence of teaching effectiveness).
