The Part-Time Academic will be responsible for teaching INDG 4001.03: Treaty in Contemporary Society, an in-person class to be held on Monday and Wednesday, 1605-1725 (Fall Term: September-December, 2024) at the Studley Campus of Dalhousie University.

The Part-Time Academic will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the course, including preparing and delivering lectures, marking student assignments, development of course content on Brightspace, and submitting grades. In addition to course time, the instructor is required to hold two office hours per week for consultation with students. The instructor reports to the Indigenous Studies program Coordinator.

Qualifications/Requirements of Position
Applicants should have:
    • familiarity with Peace and Neutrality treaties; Peace & Friendship treaties; Williams, Robinson, and Douglas treaties, numbered treaties,. and contemporary land claims agreements;
    • a completed degree in history, sociology, anthropology, or other relevant discipline.

  • training in Indigenous Studies;
  • lived experience as a Mi’kmaw (or other Indigenous) person.

Students build an understanding of Indigenous models of health and healing,  community wellness and cultural safety to promote equitable healthcare practice, research  and policy as well as explore tools for “Allyship”. 

Duties: Duties and responsibilities include course preparation and online teaching, course related student advising, and preparation and evaluation of all student assessments.  

Qualifications: Applicants should have completed at minimum a Master’s degree in a health or social science-related field (e.g., nursing, health promotion, epidemiology, psychology,  sociology). Experience in online teaching is preferred but not necessary. Experience with the  Desire2Learn and Brightspace is an asset. Preference will be given to those with lived  experience of Indigenous identity.  

Remuneration: Remuneration is in accordance with the Collective Agreement between Saint  Mary’s University and CUPE 3912.
