The part-time academic will be responsible for teaching the field and lab intensive MARI 3627.03, “Biology and Conservation of Sharks, Skates and Rays”. The course will be offered in person during the Summer session, August 14 – August 30, 2025, Monday through Saturday, 0905-1655. Responsibilities include all aspects of teaching and administering the course, including lectures, labs, field trips, test preparation, and evaluation of tests and reports. The part-time academic will also be responsible for preparing a budget in consultation with the program director and keeping field-related expenses within the approved budget. The part-time academic should expect to spend considerable time before and after the official course dates preparing and marking. The instructor is responsible for lecturing on the various characteristics, special adaptations, evolution, ecosystem roles, and population biology of marine mammals. This role includes assisting students on an individual basis; general administration of the classes (handling student issues, submitting grades, hiring/supervising TA’s, etc.); and invigilating tests and examinations. The applicants will possess an advanced degree in biology with teaching and research experience in marine mammalogy. (2 – 0.5 positions) The part-time academics will be responsible for teaching the field and lab intensive MARI 3650.03, “Ocean Technology for the Observation and Conversation of Marine Species”. The course will be offered during the Summer session, August 14 – August 31, 2023, Monday through Friday, approx. 0905-1655. Responsibilities include all aspects of teaching and administering the course, including lectures, field trips, test preparation, and evaluation of tests and reports. The part-time academics will also be responsible for preparing a budget in consultation with the program director and keeping field-related expenses within the approved budget. In addition, the part-time academics may be asked to drive students in vehicles rented by the university. Candidates must, as a minimum, possess a Master’s degree in a marine related field and have experience teaching marine management to upper level undergraduate students.

Job Summary & Key Responsibilities
The part-time academic will be responsible for teaching the field and lab intensive MARI 3627.03, “Biology and Conservation of Sharks, Skates and Rays”. The course will be offered in person during the Summer session, August 11 – August 30, 2022, Monday through Friday, 0905-1655. Responsibilities include all aspects of teaching and administering the course, including lectures, labs, field trips, test preparation, and evaluation of tests and reports. The part-time academic will also be responsible for preparing a budget in consultation with the program director and keeping field-related expenses within the approved budget. The part-time academic should expect to spend considerable time before and after the official course dates preparing and marking.  This position reports to the Chair of the department.
Qualifications/Requirements of Position
A graduate degree in Biology or related field and research experience directly related to the topic of the course. Preference will be given to candidates possessing a Ph.D. and/or previous university teaching experience in the subject of the course. Job Summary & Key Responsibilities We are seeking a colleague with expertise and teaching experience in chemical oceanography. The position includes responsibility for teaching OCEA 3002, Introduction to Chemical Oceanography, in the Fall 2021 semester. This course provides students with basic understanding of the composition of seawater and the processes that leads to this composition and its variations in space and time. The understanding should be both qualitative and quantitative and cover key concepts and tools used to understand chemical distributions within the ocean.
Qualifications/Requirements of Position It is preferred for the candidate to hold a PhD in chemical oceanography or a related discipline (candidates that are all but defended will be considered). In addition, candidates must demonstrate their ability to instruct students through lectures, in-class problem solving, and classroom-, field- or lab-based activities.

Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills are needed, as are strong organizational skills. Attention to detail and the ability to work with minimal supervision is required.

Job Summary & Key Responsibilities The Part-Time Academic will be responsible for teaching and coordinating MARA 5589/POLI5589/POLI 4590 Politics of the Sea, in the Marine Affairs Program. This graduate level half credit course will be conducted in the Winter Term of the 2020-2021 Academic year (January to April 2021).
Qualifications/Requirements of Position Candidates must, as a minimum, possess a Master’s degree in a marine related field and a law degree at the undergraduate level. Candidates must also have experience teaching at the graduate level. Experience with teaching in an online environment is an asset.
Salary Range/Pay Rate Per CUPE Collective Agreement
