DESCRIPTION OF WORK: The laboratory instructor will assist the course professor by teaching in the laboratory component of this module for Year I MScPT students. The laboratory instructor will act as an examiner in the final practical exam at the end of the semester. Laboratory instructors will also set-up for and clean-up after labs. WORK ASSIGNMENT: PHYT 5214: Cardiorespiratory Physiotherapy and Health Promotion II [January 6– April 25th, inclusive of Exam Period] Multiple Positions Available

DESCRIPTION OF WORK: The laboratory demonstrator/instructor will provide service and teaching support in the Cardiorespiratory Physiotherapy and Health Promotion II course, as part of the MSc Physiotherapy year one curriculum.

Candidates must be licensed Physiotherapists. Previous experience in cardiorespiratory practice is required. PHYT 5215 Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy II (MSK 2) [Winter, January 6th – April 25th, inclusive of Exam Period]

DESCRIPTION OF WORK: The laboratory instructor will assist the course professor by teaching advanced musculoskeletal material to Year 1 MScPT students in the practical lab sessions. Lab content will be available electronically prior to the sessions, including practical clinical skills of the various physical assessments and treatment approaches. The lab instructor may also be expected to participate in case-based tutorials as a facilitator. Tutorial facilitators will be involved in helping to facilitate tutorial case-based learning, prompting students to work through assessment and treatment plans.
Pre-Lab and pre-tutorial meetings (30 minutes) will take place prior to each scheduled lab or tutorial and lab instructors are required to attend.

Numerous lab instructors will be required to cover the lab sessions on Monday and Wednesday afternoons, as well as tutorials. You are not required to be available for all dates, however consistency will be a consideration for selecting candidates for these positions.

Candidates must be familiar with theoretical and practical knowledge of Human Movement Science. A Master’s degree with a research focus in human movement science is preferred along with experience in the musculoskeletal health.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK: The laboratory instructor/tutorial facilitator will assist the course professor by teaching advanced musculoskeletal material to Year 2 MScPT students in either the practical/lab sessions and/or as a tutorial facilitator session. Lab and tutorial content will be available electronically prior to the sessions, including practical clinical skills of the various physical assessments and treatment approaches.

Numerous lab instructors and tutorial facilitators will be required to cover the multiple lab and tutorial sessions and specific content. You are not required to be available for all dates, however consistency among instructors for students will be considered. In addition, particular topics during some labs may utilize some particular instructors who have more experience. Labs are to take place at 8:35am-12:35pm, and tutorials from 8:35am-11:55am. A half hour pre-lab meeting will be required making the start time 8:00am for lab instrutors. Some of the dates will be only lab sessions, some only tutorial sessions, and some both. Please indicate on your application what dates you are available for.

WORK ASSIGNMENT: PHYT 6118.8 – Integrated Practice I (April 15 to June 14, 2024 inclusive of Exam Period)

DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Numerous instructors are required to assist the Course Professor by teaching content in the Health Equity components of this second year MScPT course. The overall learning outcomes of the course are focused on the necessary, advanced level skills and behaviours for development, use and evaluation of client-centered, evidence-based physiotherapy services across the continuum of care, and across the lifespan, among diverse communities.
In the Health Equity component of the course, students explicitly explore the historical trauma and impacts of racism, discrimination and colonialism on health and wellness, combined with the implications for physiotherapy practices and policies. The focus in this series is on learning about the Black Canadian community, particularly the history and unique experience of African Nova Scotians (Part 1), and on learning about the history and unique experiences of Indigenous People, including the Mi’kmaq (Part 2). Learning outcomes include: knowledge of colonialism as a root cause of inequities; knowledge and skills to help address health inequities experienced by members of these communities at personal, institutional and population levels; knowledge and skills for the ability to co-develop health-promoting programs through two-eyed seeing; and knowledge and skills for development and provision of inclusive, client-/community-centered physiotherapy practices and policies.
The Health Equity classes are offered Tuesday and Thursday afternoon from 1:00 – 2:30pm, supplemented by asynchronous learning activities using on-line platforms such as Microsoft TEAMs and/or Brightspace.
Instructors will be assigned to specific classes and learning activities based on availability and content expertise, which will be detailed in the letter of appointment.
Description of the duties:
o Teach designated topics, aligning learning activities, resources, and assessments with learning objectives
o Contribute to formative or summative assessment of student learning in designated course topics

Numerous lab instructors and tutorial facilitators will be required to cover the multiple lab and tutorial sessions and specific content. You are not required to be available for all dates, however consistency among instructors for students will be considered. In addition, particular topics during some labs may utilize some particular instructors who have more experience. Labs are to take place at 8:35am-12:35pm, and tutorials from 8:35am-11:55am. DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Numerous instructors are required to assist the Course Professor by teaching content in the Health Equity components of this second year MScPT course. The overall learning outcomes of the course are focused on the necessary, advanced level skills and behaviors for development, use and evaluation of client-centered, evidence-based physiotherapy services across the continuum of care, and across the lifespan, among diverse communities.

In the Health Equity component of the course, students explicitly explore the historical trauma and impacts of racism, discrimination and colonialism on health and wellness, combined with the implications for physiotherapy practices and policies. The focus in this series is on learning about the Black Canadian community, particularly the history and unique experience of African Nova Scotians (Part 1), and on learning about the history and unique experiences of Indigenous People, including the Mi’kmaq (Part 2). Learning outcomes include: knowledge of colonialism as a root cause of inequities; knowledge and skills to help address health inequities experienced by members of these communities at personal, institutional and population levels; knowledge and skills for the ability to co-develop health-promoting programs through two-eyed seeing; and knowledge and skills for development and provision of inclusive, client-/community-centered physiotherapy practices and policies.

The Health Equity classes are offered Tuesday and Thursday afternoon from 1:00 – 2:30pm, supplemented by asynchronous learning activities using on-line platforms such as Microsoft TEAMs and/or Brightspace.

Instructors will be assigned to specific classes and learning activities based on availability and content expertise.

The focus in this series is on learning about the Black Canadian community, particularly the history and unique experience of African Nova Scotians (Part 1), and on learning about the history and unique experiences of Indigenous People, including the Mi’kmaq (Part 2). Learning outcomes include: knowledge of colonialism as a root cause of inequities; knowledge and skills to help address health inequities experienced by members of these communities at personal, institutional and population levels; knowledge and skills for the ability to co-develop health-promoting programs through two-eyed seeing; and knowledge and skills for development and provision of inclusive, client-/community-centered physiotherapy practices and policies.

The Health Equity classes are offered Tuesday and Thursday afternoon from 1:00 – 2:30pm, supplemented by asynchronous learning activities using on-line platforms such as Microsoft TEAMs and/or Brightspace.

Instructors will be assigned to specific classes and learning activities based on availability and content expertise.

Description of the duties:

o Teach designated topics, aligning learning activities, resources, and assessments with learning objectives

o Contribute to formative or summative assessment of student learning in designated course topics

The sessional instructor will be responsible for the delivery of PHYT 5020.3: Introduction to Computers for Data Acquisition and Processing. PHYT 5020 is an elective graduate course taught in the School of Physiotherapy. This introductory course provides a basic knowledge of data visualization, processing and acquisition methods through the use of MATLAB® and LabVIEW® technical computing environments. This course is intended to introduce these programs to individuals who are enrolled in an MSc or PhD program with minimal background knowledge in mathematics, computer programming and data management.

The course is structured with 1 lecture (50 minutes) and 2 – 2-hour tutorials each week. The lectures are online and asynchronous and the tutorials are in-person. Tutorials are utilized for self-directed and facilitated time with the course professor for students to work through the assigned course work. The tutorials for the Winter 2023 are scheduled. DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Numerous instructors will be required to assist the course leader during weekly lab session, by facilitating learning activities to develop knowledge and skills for evidence-based practice. In the fall term, labs will run Monday morning between 10 and 12 (1 hour per week); during the winter term, labs are scheduled to run Tuesday afternoon and Friday morning (2 hours per week). A case-oriented learning model is used to help students develop knowledge and skills for using evidence in patient-centered physiotherapy practice, using the 5As framework (Assess; Ask: Acquire; Appraise; Apply; Self Reflect), and the ICF model. Case content is designed to help students apply evidence to inform the clinical diagnosis, selection and interpretation of fundamental physiotherapy assessments, and selection and evaluation of designated physiotherapy interventions. The sessional instructor will be responsible for the delivery of PHYT 5202.3: Scientific Inquiry. PHYT 5202 is a mandatory physiotherapy course offered during the fall and winter terms of year one in the MSc.PT curriculum and involves lectures and tutorials. The course is offered using a blended design of synchronous and asynchronous methods; the timetable is set for this course, with synchronous class time scheduled from 9:30-11:30am on Monday mornings for the Fall term and Tuesdays 2:30-4pm and Fridays 10:00-11:30am for the winter term. It is expected that students receive at least 2-3 hours of course related engagement per week (including lectures, labs, assignments, studying etc.).

Learning activities are designed to develop the student’s knowledge, skills and behaviours related to scientific inquiry and use of evidence in practice, including finding, appraising and applying evidence in the context of evidence-based, patient-centered physiotherapy. The course frameworks (WHO ICF model; the 5As of Evidence Based Practice; and the CIHC National Interprofessional Competency Framework) integrate patient values/circumstances with application of scientific principles, including critical appraisal and synthesis of best-available evidence. The course provides the foundation for application and further development of knowledge and skills for evidence-based practice in all courses in the MScPT program.

In this 3-credit hour course, the instructor will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the class which includes lectures, tutorials or labs, assignments, test preparation and evaluation of students, plus orientation and oversight of course tutors. In addition, the instructor will hold regular office hours for consultation with students.

PhD or Masters degree; knowledge of evidence-based practice skills including appraisal and application of different types of research to address a specific types of focused clinical research questions, measurement methods, data analyses, documentation of key features of articles, and synthesis of evidence. PHYT 5103 is a mandatory physiotherapy course embedded within the fall term of year one in the MSc.PT curriculum and involves lectures and lab sessions. The timetable is set for this course. The course is intended to be delivered in person. Currently there is a synchronous lecture scheduled from 8:30-9:30am on Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning and a lab section from 1-4pm on Friday afternoon. It is expected that students receive at least 5-6 hours of course related engagement per week (including lectures, labs, assignments, studying etc.). There are a total of 6 labs to be delivered over the course of the fall semester and the instructor can schedule these at their discretion.

Students will develop and use a systematic process for integrating mechanical, anatomical and kinesiology knowledge to analyze human movement. Students will learn to apply basic mechanical concepts to human movements, and to relate these to physiotherapy assessments and interventions for people across the lifespan. Students also will analyze and learn basic physiotherapy techniques used to assess human movement and function. The instructor would work in partnership on this 3-credit hour course with guest lectures from the faculty in the School of Physiotherapy. DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Numerous instructors are required to assist the Course Professor by teaching content in the Health Equity components of this second year MScPT course. The overall learning outcomes of the course are focused on the necessary, advanced level skills and behaviours for development, use and evaluation of client-centered, evidence-based physiotherapy services across the continuum of care, and across the lifespan, among diverse communities.

In the Health Equity component of the course, students explicitly explore the historical trauma and impacts of racism, discrimination and colonialism on health and wellness, combined with the implications for physiotherapy practices and policies. The focus in this series is on learning about the Black Canadian community, particularly the history and unique experience of African Nova Scotians (Part 1), and on learning about the history and unique experiences of Indigenous People, including the Mi’kmaq (Part 2). Learning outcomes include: knowledge of colonialism as a root cause of inequities; knowledge and skills to help address health inequities experienced by members of these communities at personal, institutional and population levels; knowledge and skills for the ability to co-develop health-promoting programs through two-eyed seeing; and knowledge and skills for development and provision of inclusive, client-/community-centered physiotherapy practices and policies.

The Health Equity classes are offered Tuesday and Thursday afternoon from 1:00 – 2:30pm, supplemented by asynchronous learning activities using on-line platforms such as Microsoft TEAMs and/or Brightspace.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK: This position involves working with students in their first year in the MScPT program. The laboratory instructor will assist the course professor by teaching physical assessment and treatment techniques, including exercise prescription for people living with chronic cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases.  The sessional co-instructor will be responsible for the online delivery of a one week section of PHYT6218.04 Integrated Practice II related to the practice area of amputations. The co-instructor would work in partnership with the Instructor of Record from Physiotherapy. The instructor will be responsible for 3 lectures and 1 lab, all completed online synchronously or asynchronously. This capstone course is the second of the two senior courses in which you will develop knowledge, understanding, and skills to address the health issues faced by those who live with complex, chronic health conditions in the context of diverse personal and environmental factors.  Use of case-based learning is progressed to further develop your ability to identify and address your own learning successes and challenges related to the development, use, and evaluation of collaborative, client-centered, evidence-based physiotherapy services across the continuum of care. There is continued emphasis on the use of multi-system analysis and clinical reasoning, within the ICF framework, in concert with skills for sensitive, effective collaborative learning and practice, as appropriate for the senior student who is nearing readiness for independent practice.

General course objectives include;
1.       Integrate and apply diverse knowledge and skills with respect to selected indicator conditions, across the continuum of care (i.e. acute, long term, and community care plus health promotion service) and in multiple areas of Physiotherapy practice (i.e. Cardiorespiratory, Neurological and Musculoskeletal)

2.       Apply knowledge from the basic and applied sciences to enhance understanding of the selected indicator conditions.

3.       Select advanced assessment and measurement tools through the application of sound measurement principles to evaluate factors and attributes that contribute to limitations in activity and participation germane to selected indicator conditions.
